Many years after Noah, God found a man and chose him for a very special purpose. The man's name was Abram. | | | Now the LORD said to Abram,
"Go forth from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father's house,
To the land which I will show you;
And I will make you a great nation,
And I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And so you shall be a blessing;
And I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who curses you I will curse.
And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.* | | | |

God chose Abram to serve His purposes. Abram was called to separate himself and go where God directed. In return God would bless Abram. Think about the amazing ways God was going to bless Abram. The most important blessing was the last one mentioned in our Bible text today. "And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed." How are all the families of the earth going to be blessed through Abram? Many, many years later and forty two generations later, Jesus was born as a descendant of Abram. Abram was a great, great, great, great...grandfather of Jesus. Jesus has blessed all the families of the earth. God was preparing way back with Abram to bring you and me the blessed good news! God was going to send the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ through the lineage of Abram.
